Third Sunday in Lent March 27, 2011 Abraham Covenant "Name Change, Heart Change, Game Changer"

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Tomorrow is the Third Sunday in Lent. As we strive to celebrate this reflective season of Lent I want to encourage you all in the continuation of your reading through the New Testament! If you are doing the Gospel and Letter portions each day, which is what I am doing, you are finishing Luke 5 and Ephesians 6 today. I hope in the next few weeks to have people share what the Lord has been revealing during this Lenten discipline.

Tomorrow we will have JIM FRY LEADING THE COVENANT AND KINGDOM STUDY that was on Wednesday, following the Lenten Service. It will start in the sanctuary at 8:50am and THERE WILL BE CHILDCARE PROVIDED! We want everyone to take in this class to better understand where we as a church family are journeying to Share Christ: BELONG, BELIEVE, BECOME!

Tomorrow we continue with our Series on Covenant and Kingdom looking at the Covenant God initiates with Abram/Abraham. This is a unique covenant in that we see Abraham receiving a remarkable gift of the "Royal Land Grant (unconditional) Covenant" in Gen 15 where God does it all! Then in Gen 17 a restating of this Covenant with a Name change, a Sign (Circumcision/heart change) and then a game changer which is the promise of land and multitudes of descendants! The difference here is that in Gen 17 God gives Abraham and his descendants an "out" if they do not want the blessings. Don't be circumcised and then you will void the covenant. This is unique and in Old Testament, of which I studied as my major in my BTS and MDiv, and is called a Suzerain-vassal where there is an act of love and total consecration to the King, ie: circumcision of the heart as God will later explain.

Tomorrow please join us for the AWARDS CEREMONY FOR THIS UPWARDS SEASON at 4pm at the EMU Convocation Center. Our own Abbie Stauffer will be sharing her remarkable gift of music from 3:30-4 so arrive early! It is free and the presenter is awesome!! She will be worshiping the Lord with us tomorrow morning! Please come and bring friends!!
As I have spent most of the week in bed wrestling with the multiple viruses that I received, I want to thank those who have faithfully continued to serve in the many ministries happening at C&R! Special thanks to Paul for taking over on Wednesday and for those who help with Ladies Bible Class, Wednesday meal, small groups, college outreach and Covenant and Kingdom. Thanks to all those who helped out with the Soaking Prayer time on Thursday, I really wish I could have been there! Thanks to Jim and Marsha for coming to pray with me and for all your prayers!

This Thursday at 11am there will be a Funeral Service for Stephen Masch, son of Gary and Betty Masch. I will be leading the Service Liturgy and Pastor Ron Zehnder will be preaching. The service will be at St. Luke with a lunch following. Contact Joanne at the office if you wish to help or find out more information. Please keep the Masch family in your prayers during this time.
